“I’m sitting on top of the blues. I’m a bluesman who’s sitting on the top of my game, proud of what I do and proud of who I am and thankful for people accepting me for what I am and who I am,” sagt der charismatische Rush. “I’m happy about what I’m doing and still enthused about what I’m doing. And I think we’ve got some good songs.”
Ausgelassener Soul mit R&B Einflüssen und ineinandergreifende Gitarren. Rush und Co-Produzent Vasti Jackson haben etwas geschaffen das jeden Hörer mitreißt.
Rush spielt Mundharmonika, singt und lässt sich von starken Grooves begleiten. Seit Jahren ist er ein meisterhafter Geschichtenerzähler und die Songs des neuen Albums folgen dieser Tradition. Bobby ist niemand der sich auf Lorbeeren ausruht, denn wenn man es genau nimmt, beginnt er gerade erst so richtig.
“I think I’m getting more acclaim because I’m working harder, and when people tell me I can’t do something, that’s the wrong thing to tell Bobby Rush,” sagt er. “I’m considered the king of the chitlin’ circuit. I’m crossing over now, but I haven’t crossed out. And I think the music itself says that about me.”
Ebenfalls an der Produktion beteiligt war Scott Billington (Produzent von Porcupine Meat). Das Album bringt Rushs Stärken im Blues, Soul, Funk und alles was dazu gehört hervor.
